Report – Piet Postema, Chairman of the Management and Trustee of the Home
Three senior members of the management team at Christine Revell Children’s Home joined us at our family breakfast on Friday 8 December. They were the General Manager Anneline Scholz, the Deputy General Manager Thohiera Roodt and our Social Worker Cindy-Lee van Andel.
This team together with the rest of the team have worked tirelessly to raise funds for the Home which was desperately needed. They organised the annual “Snack Dance” which turned out to be the most successful to date, a Market Day earlier in the year was another major fund raising success, an “Adopt-a-child” outing where all expenses were covered by sponsors and another well organised “Carols by Candlelight” held on the 2 December.
The loyalty and commitment of the staff generally is incredible, this past week we acknowledged Rayleen Gertse for 20 years of service. Other long service staff include Mathilda 37 years, Lea has over 31 years, Nandipho 21 years and Anneline herself 28 years. This loyalty and commitment is the primary reason this Home is so stable and well run for the benefit of the children placed in its care and is a sought after haven for children in need.
Anneline gave a brief overview of the Home and especially thanked Waterfront Rotary Club for the 3rd year of contribution’s towards the purchase of scrubs (working clothing) and name badges, which all three wore at the breakfast. Because they are easily recognised as the staff of the Home they often get priority treatment when taking children to the hospital or clinic.
Anneline also thanked the various members of our Club for their commitment to the Home over the past 23 years. In particular Nadene, Maryka, Lionel, Spiro and Piet. She was very pleased to see Hannarie at the breakfast who has done wonderful work at the Home for many years and recently withdrew for personal reasons.
Piet was particularly pleased that this senior team was invited to our year-end breakfast giving more exposure to the Home for the benefit of our members. It also gave members an opportunity to learn more about our Club.
