To kick off our programming year at Salesians, we arranged an engaging workshop on identity and difference, community inclusion, and overcoming cultural barriers ON 19 January. The young, eager students in our workshop were completely engrossed and committed to our workshop subject, “The Gold I Bring.”
Addressing Challenges: Weather and Distractions
One factor to take into account was the weather, which caused a large number of our students to become sidetracked from the material being taught. We needed to divide our rather large group into family groups and decide which part of the property would be ideal for private conversations. It was difficult for our team of facilitators to compete with the sounds of people and external groups in the quad area outside of our workshop. We overcame this problem and found a solution.
Future Workshops: Ambassadors Curriculum
We have five workshops left, we will begin our Ambassadors Curriculum, which will last the rest of our time with the students. This means that we want to discuss the case studies of our 14 Nobel Peace Prize winners with the students and have a respectful conversation about their lives and contributions. Our social impact film screenings highlighting toxic masculinity and gender-based violence will be incorporated into the programme. For one of the screenings, here is the trailer: https://youtu.be/hc45-ptHMxo?si=E8832_uHosCueW4e
We are excited for the upcoming round of workshops at Salesians.
