AN OVERVIEW BY EARL MENTOR
“My two recent workshops were aimed at unpacking negative triggers in the lives of the students. Exploring how we are negatively impacted by people, places, and things. And how best to navigate and manage our response to negative events in our lives. It was an interesting experience, as I have noticed that many of the students are sitting with deep emotional baggage.”
Overview:
On any given day, it seems as if the students probably experience a range of core negative emotions —unease, frustration, and disappointment. These often relate to specific events, such as growing up in high-conflict communities, not talking current negative events with a friend, counsellor, or family member. These negative emotions are sitting in their body, as per my observation while facilitating my workshop with the students.
What stood out is that these responses to the negative events in their lives vary based on their frame of mind and the circumstances surrounding their respective situations at home and in their community. The emotional trigger is anything — including memories, experiences, and events — that sparks an intense emotional reaction, regardless of their current mood.
We will be unpacking these core emotions in our next series of workshops.
Thank you for the opportunity for us to come in and do this very important work with the young adults in our workshops. It’s going to be an interesting few weeks. These pics show learners grappling with emotions.
