With the Waterfront Canal Challenge 2024 now done and dusted, Project leader Spiro Mitchell had reason to smile. Spiro provided crew with a comprehensive positive Close-Out Report at the meeting last Friday. The event generated a profit of R70 000 with an increase of 80% in participants. The event generated incredible publicity, successfully raising the profile of Rotary. 10% of the funds raised would be used as seed funding next year. In appreciation for hard work, Waterfront Canal Challenge 2024 Exco members Nadene Rolston, President Mymoena Ismail and June Webber, each received an orchid from Spiro! (More smiles!)
Wheelchair Donation to the Roxy Foundation
Liza Lucani, a Board Member of the Roxy Foundation, took delivery of two wheelchairs – a donation to recognise their participation in WCC 2024. Liza thanked RC Waterfront on behalf of Roxy who was away in El Salvador participating in a surfing event.
Liza shared that not everyone could bring wheelchairs to the beach. To have the two chairs available (apparently a lot of equipment is transported to the beach by the volunteer team) para swimmers could easily be wheeled to the sea. (Big thanks to Dirk Hoffman for collection from Dischem Claremont, and to Joke Young of the Rotary Club of Helderberg for organising the delivery from Durban.)
