Insights on Dealing with Difficult People – Derek Pead

This was an interesting interactive discussion. Derek led into the topic asking “what do other people do that irritates/annoys/angers/infuriates us”? In turn “what do we do that irritates/annoys/angers/infuriates other people. To assist facilitation, we were asked to use an app on our mobile phones to interact – provide comments/questions relevant to the topic which immediately showed on the screen. The Chinese Crocodile image Derek has used for the last twenty years, was symbolic. To survive these creatures (facing critical extinction), wanting to go in different directions, have a common interest (food). They need to collaborate to survive.

The Art of Effective Listening

effective listening

There was a lot to digest. Derek said there are very few difficult people in the world, but from time to time, most of us behave in ways that others will perceive, as us being difficult, eg. we become and angry and react to what they are saying. The importance of Listening made a big impact.

Embracing Diversity in Perception

Derek left us with a lot of food for thought – emphasising that we are all different. Because of this our perceptions are different in interpreting conversations/communications. We all need to hone in and sharpen, especially our  listening skills. Many thanks Derek.
