We have been blown out of the water through the wonderful coverage, print, radio and social media that the event has generated through onboarding Tracey Saunders to assist. She has been a super star. Pre-WCC 2024 week, every community newspaper carried an article on the event . On Monday, 8 April, a press release with pics was distributed to all community newspapers. Not only did we get feedback through this medium, but also through the swimmers themselves who participated and praised the event. Many have promised to be back next year. The incredible generous prizes by our sponsors (see pics below) not only for participants, but also attendees, is definitely an incentive to return next year!
Opening the event: Left: Alderman James Vos and June Webber. Front: Captain Mymoena Ismail and Spiro Mitchell about to release ten homing pigeons symbolising Peace and Hope. We “hope” the pigeons made it back home safely in the blustering wind!
What a splash! Over 200 participants and volunteers took to the canal on Saturday 6 April! All participants were honoured with goodie bags and medals. The winners received cash and V&A vouchers as tokens of appreciation for their exceptional efforts.

School Sports Excellence: Introducing the Floating School’s Trophy
A floating school’s trophy was introduced this year and is sure to be much sought after in the highly competitive school sport arena going forward. The Trophy was won by Durbanville high School – pic shows Anita Louw proudly holding the inaugural trophy.
Big thanks to our Mcees Andre du Toit (left with AG Justin Schonegevel who won the big random prize – a night at the One&Only); Right: Michelle Weber being interviewed by Kevin Abbott who assisted Andre.
Huge Big Thank You to Our Incredible Waterfront Canal Challenge 2024 Sponsors
Special thanks to Red Bull for the drinks and for the sound – adding much “gees” to the morning.
