Waterfront Rotary Member Induction Ceremony Highlights

On Friday, we inducted three new members (totalling 10 this RY – see slide above).

“Getting to know Rotary” was the topic for an informal interactive session where Membership Director June Webber presented the crew with a “helicopter view” of Rotary with reels from Rotary International.

Member Testimonials on Rotary’s Impact

Six crew members then spoke from the heart, at grassroots level, as to the impact that Rotary had had on their lives, from Martin Colman (charter member) to Jan Buurman (former member of the RC of Groote Schuur) on their many years of service.

Each year, worldwide, there is a 10% attrition in membership. It is hugely disappointing when new members leave for various reasons. They usually do so in the first two years.

Ensuring New Rotary Member Integration

The Waterfront Rotary member induction on Friday was to ensure that our new members understand the structure of Rotary International and how they can maximize their club experience. Please reach out to these new members to help them feel uniquely inclusive.

We live in a fast-changing world. One lesson learned is that Rotary needs to be flexible. We can provide the tools (orientation and mentors). More importantly, with the e-Learning Centre on My Rotary, there are multiple opportunities to grow and understand Rotary, from every perspective for new members.

The key to integration into a Rotary club is for each new member to get involved, be proactive, identify a project where their unique skills can make a difference to help grow the Rotary Club of Waterfront into an “irresistible club” as “People of Action”.
