Synergies with Salesians Hydroponics Eco-ubuntu Project in Langa

The Grade 9 students and their mentor from Bishops Diocesan College, as well as representatives from Salesians Institute Youth Projects located in Johannesbug and Cape Town, convened with the Rotary Club of Waterfront team on Friday, November 17, 2023. The goal was to investigate any possible synergies in order to increase the availability of fresh food to about 14 households in Langa. Hydroponics is one of the components of an eco-buntu project being run by the Salesians Institute in Johannesburg. The hydroponics component entails setting up hubs for training, support, raising awareness, and other purposes throughout identified Cape Town communities. The group decided to collaborate with the goal of implementing a phased-in strategy. To ensure long-term sustainability an important component of the project would involve training of community members and awareness of the project.
