Internationalism – Building Partnerships

International Portfolio Leader Mymoena Ismail suggested that as from this month, we dedicate an “Internationalisation” section within our communications. This suggestion is welcomed as it would give clear identity and visibility to the growing cross-border relationships that our club is actively building. This will set the tone for recognising and celebrating our expanding international connections. As a starting point, we feature two recent highlights as the first stories under this section:

  • The visit of Nidhi Gangan from the Rotary Club of Riverside, Jacksonville, Florida.
  • The Zoom meeting with Matthew Booth, who is based in Bermuda and engaging with the local Rotary community there.

A Heartfelt Morning of Connection with Nidhi Gangan

On Friday, our club welcomed Nidhi Gangan from the Rotary Club of Riverside, Jacksonville, Florida, for a delightful breakfast gathering. She is on a short visit—spending time with her parents—the morning resonated far beyond a simple meal. It became a space filled with genuine laughter, meaningful conversation, and the spirit of Rotary’s international fellowship.

Nidhi, who proudly serves as Club Chair for Emerald Trail Steering Committtee (a collaborative project involving multiple rotary clubs in the district, local nonprofit organizations, the City of Jacksonville, businesses, and individuals who care about sustainable development and quality of life in our communities) of the Riverside Jacksonville Rotary Club, joined us in exploring opportunities for future collaboration on shared service projects. Her warmth and sincerity made the short visit feel like the beginning of something lasting—bridging our clubs across continents and strengthening the bonds that define Rotary.

Though her time with us was brief, the ripple of ideas and connections sparked during that breakfast will continue to inspire our club’s international efforts and collaborative spirit in the months ahead. 🌍

A Conversation with Matthew Booth

On Friday, Captain Tony Austen and Mymoena Ismail had the opportunity to meet with our fellow Rotarian, Matthew Booth, over Zoom.
Although Matthew is based in Bermuda, he continues to keep close ties with Cape Town and our club. it was a real joy to reconnect.

During their conversation, Matthew shared that he has recently reached out to the local Rotary Club in Bermuda. This is exciting news, as it opens new doors for fellowship, collaboration, and the possibility of future projects between our clubs.

What struck Mymoena most was how this simple connection is such a powerful reminder of Rotary’s global spirit. No matter where in the world we may find ourselves, Rotary gives us a family and a shared purpose.

Tony and Mymoena left the meeting encouraged and inspired.  They look forward to seeing how this new link with Bermuda might grow in the months ahead. (Credit: IPP Mymoena Ismail)
