The meeting on 10 March was to provide the Project Team Leader with a platform to brief those who were to marshal on Sunday, 12 March. Unfortunately, Dirk Hoffman was down with Covid, but in his stead Pieter Swart stepped up to the plate and competently took over.
The consensus is that the Cape Town Cycle Tour went incredibly well with just under 20000 finishing (20640 started) on a perfect Cape Town day with little wind. Apparently there was one fatality with a few in hospitalised with injuries, which could be as there were a number of bikes unclaimed.
Many pics were received – making it hard to choose – here’s a random selection:

Hats off to Sue Truter who once again coordinated parking ticket sales for three solid days at the Expo. Having happy helpers made all the difference! Above Hans Stampfl, Sue and Jo Hansen. Below: Sue with stalwarts Maryka Vermaak (back) with Sue and Robert Moses Magotsi.
A few words from Sue: “In previous years WRC sold parking tickets for CTCT Race Day at the Expo on a commission basis. Ticket sellers use their local knowledge to help cyclists and their families plan a stress free morning even if not parking with us. On Race Day we manage the reserved parking areas and highlight the entrances/exits with our bright yellow bibs. Thanks to Pieter Swart and Maryka for stepping in when project leader Dirk got ill and to all those who gave up their Sunday to work – you must admit it’s a great fellowship occasion too!” Pieter will provide a report back on Friday.
