57 Learners from as far afield as Upington spent a week in Cape Town participating in the AIC, this was after an absence of three years due to COVID. Visits included the High Court, University of the Western Cape, Provincial Parliament, and an Ecobrick Building Masterclass. Special thanks to the chairmanship of Steven Boers of the Rotary Club of Cape Town, as well as that of Justin Schonegevel of the Rotary Club of Wynberg and the management skills support of Emily O’Ryan (Blouberg Rotary / Waterfront Rotaract). Thanks too to the leadership of of the participating schools, in our case – Tony Austen of Salesians.
HISTORY OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF CAPE TOWN – OUR MOTHER CLUB
The RC of Cape Town was sponsored by the RC of Johannesburg. ROTARY DISTRICT 9350 (formerly D 935 – formerly D 235) on 25 April 1925. Since then our Mother club has sponsored multiple clubs – including the RC of Waterfront on 12 September 1992. They are – Bellville; Cap Des Tempetes; George; Paarden Eiland; Pierhead; Roggebaai; Sea Point; Signal Hill; Stellenbosch Tafelberg; Table Bay; Waterfront; Windhoek and Wynberg – totalling 14 Rotary clubs. What a legacy!
