Happy 50th Birthday Rotary Club of Claremont

What an unforgettable evening filled with entertainment and delightful surprises from start to finish that ticked all the boxes! Above group L-R Captain Mymoena Ismail, President JJ, Piet Postema, June Webber, Helene Visser (RC Blouberg), PDG Geraldine Nicol (RC Newlands) and Lynn Wade (RC Blouberg). Sue Truter also attended. The evening made for great fellowship, travelling down 50 years of the club’s impressive history.
The celebration at Kelvin Grove Club began with a warm welcome from Masi Violin, a group dedicated to providing free, high-quality music education to aspiring violinists in the community of Masiphumelele. Their mission which starts with children as young as seven, is to inspire a love for music while fostering creativity, emotional growth, intellectual development, and self-worth through the magical world of the violin.

President JJ extended a heartfelt welcome to all guests, thanking the many clubs represented for their support. A delicious meal was followed by an enchanting performance by the College of Magic (in keeping with the annual Rotary theme – “Make Rotary Magic”). This incredible institution empowers young people by teaching them the art of magic and entertainment, helping them build confidence and develop essential life and social skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

The evening also saw the presentation of three prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship awards: Mr. Willie Jacobs for his outstanding contribution to South African athletics. Biffy Danckwerts for her dedicated work on the I Love Coffee Global Grant. Ian Pursch (Rotary Club of Newlands) for his invaluable role as a trustee of the Cape Town Cycle Tour for the last five years. Here’s to another 50 years of stellar service RC Claremont!
