James Liddell gave the club an overview of the Thina Project, a Rotary Club of Waterfront project on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Training & Job Creation.
CCTI – is a schools diversity awareness programme strengthening social cohesion in society. The Programme offers learners a unique opportunity to explore the City’s diverse religious and spiritual communities in a personal and experiential way. It also provides a safe and supportive environment for Grade 10 and Grade 11 learners to explore themselves – their identities and beliefs – as well as the world around them. They create friendships and bonds with other learners from different areas of the city, different socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, traditions and faiths – young people whom they might not normally get the chance to meet. James also outlined the various positive benefits that would impact the club.
What will this mean for the Waterfront Rotary Club?
First and foremost, it will be the chance for Rotary to become synonymous with a Programme that has a lasting impact on young lives in Cape Town. The programme is unique in its model of bringing together young people from diverse schools and backgrounds. They are actively working to cross the socio and economic barriers in Cape Town’s multicultural landscape. They believe this aligns well with the values and mission of Rotary, building community leaders who are working to unite and take action to create lasting change. They are inspired by the work of Rotary and hope that learners too will be inspired to continue their community activism and involvement for peace and unity. WRC Club can present ourselves to the Grade 11 Programme and / or for the Alumni who may be interested in future involvement for themselves, encouraging more younger membership/ involvement in our projects. All donors and supporters are honoured and made known through our Annual Report and are invited to be part of CTII Community Events and Projects.
Members that are interested in supporting and promoting this project are asked to contact James.
