Jan Buurman is an Advocate of the Cape Bar. He studied Law and Commerce at Stellenbosch University. He went to Paul Roos Gymnasium. He is a well-rounded sportsman – cricketer, tennis player and golfer.  Jan’s topic “On and off the Court” gave a us a fascinating insight to his incredibly interesting life – spanning history and travel.  

Jan travelled extensively when he was younger and shared many interesting snippets with crew. He even travelled on the Concorde passenger jet on an international flight to New York.  His knowledge of the history of the Cape was fascinating as he traced his family roots back in time over decades. Jan practices as a settlement counsel of problem cases and as a mediator.

He shared that he has been a Rotarian since 2006 when he joined the Rotary Club of Groote Schuur (now unfortunately closed), where he was President on numerous occasions. The primary project focus of the club over the years was St Ann’s Home.

Jan’s mediation and entrepreneurial skills are being put to good use as a valuable member of the club’s Entrepreneurship Committee.
