Dr Pillay took us through a fascinating journey of the state of health care world-wide. Japan’s healthcare system is known for being one of the best in the world, It provides quality health care that is affordable and accessible to nearly everyone in the country.
Dr Pillay shared the stark reality of escalating health costs worldwide. People are living longer, not necessarily healthier. In the U.S. drug prices were nearly four times higher than average prices compared to similar countries. Medical bills are eroding 66% of their monthly income.
South Africa ranks 50th out of 94 countries on the 2024 Global Healthcare Index. This suggests that while the country provides solid healthcare options, there is still significant room for improvement. This is particularly true when it comes to making public and private healthcare more equal.
June thanked Dr Pillay for his relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence, driving a new era of personalised, technology-driven and transformative healthcare. More importantly, for establishing Nura Cape Town at the V&A Waterfront, Africa’s 1st AI Preventative Health Screening Centre in Africa.
